What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It refers to how high your website ranks on search engines when a user enters a specific word or phrase into the search bar.

How to Create an SEO Strategy

Before beginning any type of SEO, make a plan. The more you know ahead of time, the better it will be implemented and thus provide a better result. SEO has four distinct components:

Technical: How well your content can be read and tagged by search engines content: Having the most relevant answers to a searcher’s questions on-site: Having all of your website’s content, titles, and pages optimized for your target keywords off-site: Having a large number of reputable websites link back to your website

Together, these four aspects of SEO can help increase the visibility and traffic to your website. To create an effective SEO strategy, you will need access to the back end of your website so that you can edit and add new content, titles, and pages that are linked to your relevant tags

Step 1: Evaluate Your Current Standing

Chances are, your website has been up and running for a while, but it isn’t getting the traffic you want or providing a high turnover for new clients. Starting with the Home page, go through each page and read each piece of content. Your website should have a consistent flow that leads a user to the answer to their question (within 2 clicks). If your website takes too long to respond to these questions, you will most likely have a high bounce rate, and your website will begin to be downgraded on Google and other search engines. Search engines want to provide relevant information to online searchers as soon as possible. When search engine crawlers notice that a user is quickly bouncing back from your website, it indicates that there is unnecessary or incorrect information on your page, removing all credibility.

Ask yourself, “Do I even have any SEO Strategies implemented on my website?” What is my bounce rate? Can I find answers to common questions in just two clicks?

Step 2: Find Your Topics – Best SEO strategy

Now we’ll start working on your new SEO strategy. The first step is to envision your ideal client. Determine their:

You can then do some role playing after you’ve created your ideal client. Make them come to you for services. Consider yourself in the shoes of your ideal clients, and consider the topics you might discuss and any questions they might have. You should be able to determine common topics based on this. If you’re a dentist, those common questions may revolve around topics such as Pediatric Dentistry, Emergency Dental Care, and Insurance Policy, to name a few. Make a list of your common topics and don’t forget about your ideal client!Consider the following: What are the primary issues that my target audience faces? What are their inquiries?

Step 3: Find Your Keywords

You will now go through your list of common topics in Step 2 and find about 10 keywords for each topic. Some keywords for our topic of Pediatric Dentistry, for example, would be:

  • Pediatric Dentistry near me
  • Autism Pediatric Dentistry
  • Pediatric Dentistry in “city”
  • Pediatric Dentistry
  • Pediatric Dentist
  • When should I take my child to the dentist?
  • Dentist for Children
  • Children’s Dentist Near
  • No Insurance for Children’s Dentist

Your list can grow very long, but ten is a good place to start. You may or may not use all ten keywords if they do not naturally fit onto your website’s pages. The simplest way to find your keywords is to simply search for them. Keyword Tool.io is an excellent free resource.

Ask yourself, “What are the top ten keywords associated with each topic and service you provide?”

Step 4: Build Your Pages in SEO strategy

Now that you’ve chosen your topics and keywords, all that remains is to create the pages for your website.

Unless you have a topic that is directly related to it, each topic you create will have its own page. Keep in mind that less is more.

Remember those keywords we mentioned? You want to use them organically in your content. Include your location in the content and keywords of your website. Your content should be written with the user in mind, not the search engine.

Ask yourself, “Is this relevant information that will help me solve the problem that I have defined?”

Step 5: Create a Reputation Building Plan

Google and online reviews are critical in today’s world; they can literally make or break your business. To stay ahead of the competition, you must take control of your online reputation. If you haven’t already, sign up for the free online review platforms/directories.

Once you’ve registered and updated all of your accurate information, begin asking your clients to leave you a review. When ranking websites at the top of search results, search engines take into account user reviews. Consider a review as someone telling Google, “Yes, this website is legitimate, and this business does what they say.”

When was the last time a client left me a review?

Step 6: Reevaluate & Analyze

Examine the performance of your website every month or so. You should be able to see where your users are coming from (social media, Google, website like Basket Random, etc.) and what keywords they are using to find you. You can go back through your list of keywords and replace some of the less popular ones. Every day, the way people search online changes; in order to keep your business relevant, you must stay on top of your content and keywords. Keeping your website up to date and accurate is one of the best ways to ensure consistent growth.
