New MacBook Air M2
During WWDC 2022, Apple revealed a new MacBook Air with an M2 processor. Further information continues to slip out, even if it’s not precisely what the rumors expected. According to the most recent speculations, a 15-inch MacBook Air may be forthcoming.
The MacBook Air M2 didn’t feature
the colorful overhaul that Apple previously anticipated, but it did come with
MagSafe charging and a notched display. The details below demonstrate what was
allegedly in the revised M2 model, which might still appear in the upcoming
The 15-inch variant is now a rumor.
Air M2 features
A 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 processor would likely be a larger version of the 13.6-inch model with only minor differences. However, Apple could add more colors or other features to differentiate itself.
Design: According to rumors, the new MacBook Air will have many of the
same design elements as the 24-inch iMac. However, it ended up looking more
like the redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
Instead of having a tapered
casing, the chassis has a uniform thickness. It is consequently extremely
thin—thinner than the MacBook Pro—but only has room for its USB-C ports.
Apple only announced four color
options when the company was expected to use the same palette as the iMac. Why
Apple settled on four subdued colors for the MacBook Air, and several vibrant
colors for the iMac are unclear.
The bezels surrounding the new
MacBook Air’s display, according to rumors, would be off-white. They are
instead of all-black, just like the MacBook Pro.
Processor: Apple Silicon’s M2 represents the second generation. This
processor series will probably dominate Apple’s Mac lineup after a few
iterations, so a 15-inch model with that processor will likely be released in
2023.
The Media Engine in the M2 allows
for better video editing and makes it up to 18% faster than the M1. Since it
does not expand Thunderbolt’s capabilities, the one-monitor limitation still
applies remains.
Apple is unlikely to include an M2
Pro in the 15-inch MacBook Air because the laptop is a consumer-grade product.
Since the MacBook Air is designed to be fan-less, the processor that can be
used may also be restricted.
Display: The display on the M1 MacBook Air is 13.3 inches; in the M2 model,
it is 13.6 inches. A larger model’s display will grow to 15 inches if rumors
are true.
Because there are more dimming
zones and light sources with mini-LEDs than with LED backlights, the lighting
is more evenly distributed. Although it is much more effective than LED, it is
not quite as efficient as OLED.
Mini-LED backlighting might filter
down from expensive devices, but ProMotion won’t. Although this feature enables
smooth animations and scrolling at variable refresh rates up to 120Hz, it is
probably too costly to be included in Apple’s low-cost laptop.
Ports:
Two Thunderbolt ports, a MagSafe connector, and a headphone jack
are part of the new MacBook Airports. These ports are typically the ones that
were used in the more prominent 15-inch model.
The two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports
can charge the MacBook Air quickly and support data transfers up to 40Gbps.
High-impedance headphones are compatible with the headphone jack.
The M2 image signal processor
upgrades the webcam to 1080p with a clear image. Although Apple omitted the Center
Stage, it did include a feature in macOS Ventura that allows the iPhone camera
to function as a webcam on the Mac.
New OS features
Despite being very mature, Apple’s Mac platform receives a major operating system update every year. The switch to Apple Silicon has given Apple new opportunities to fine-tune its software, with a new emphasis on optimization, collaboration, and interoperability.
Spotlight is macOS’s central search tool and has been given an iOS-style makeover. In the results, you can search for content within apps, find images with searched text, or see content directly from the web.
Search results for media, people, and businesses are also more detailed. When you search for a musician, you will get more information about them and their discography, whereas searching for a personal contact will show you information from their Contacts card.
Users can access app actions directly from search thanks to Spotlight quick actions. When you enter the name of an app or an effort, the available actions, such as starting a timer or Shazam, will appear in the search results.
Apple has made it possible to use the iPhone as a Mac webcam because there’s a good chance the iPhone camera is the best camera a person owns. It connects the iPhone and Mac with essentially no setup using the Continuity Camera feature that already exists.
Configure: For a maximum cost of $2,499, customers can configure it with up
to 2TB of storage and 24GB of RAM. Although this price is higher than that of a
16-inch MacBook Pro offers significantly more storage and RAM. And base
model starts from $1,199.00.
